Library Displays: Search Wall

RF_search_wallThis is part of the wall in front of my five library computers. We try to keep them open to the library catalog homepage which has links to recommended resources as well as the catalog search. To help students with their search I’ve always used their prior searches as a way to provide keywords for their future searches. In Destiny Library Manager you can run a report that allows you to see the search statistics (Reports–>Library Reports–>Search Statistics). You can then choose how far back to collect the data and for which types of searches (successful, unsuccessful, any). It helps to see what students are spelling incorrectly and what the most frequent searches are for.

Using this data I typed out keywords related to several of these searches and posted them on the wall in front of our search stations. Also on this wall I have the posters I made related to questions I’m often asked such as “where are the scary books?” and “where are the making stuff books?” These are free on TeachersPayTeachers.

Awesomeness! Will definitely use with my 3-5 graders. Our online catalog isn’t the most user friendly and is not very forgiving. Keeping my fingers crossed for Destiny. Love that you can run your own reports!
