Celebrate Picture Book Month

I did it!

I got my bulletin board changed BEFORE the month started!  Whoohooo!

In my world this is big news.

Here’s the scoop….

Picture Book Month was started last year in response to an article that was published in the New York Times. You can read the origin story at the website. In response to the push to the perceived push to move readers into Chapter Books authors, illustrators, readers, and librarians banded together to start celebrating Picture Books for the month.

There is a great calendar that will keep you updated. Each day during the month an author or illustrator will post to the blog about their favorite picture book experience. There’s also a theme-of-the-day if you want to follow along in your libraries.

I don’t have a specific plan for my library this month other than my bulletin board. I still have a few hours until the month begins to come up with an idea!details about the bulletin board!

And, before I dash off, I used pictures from the Children’s Book a Day Almanac (another fabulous resource!). I picked some of my favorite picture books from a range of interests, time periods, and illustration styles (and whatever came up first in my search….). The original idea was posted on Pinterest with a real clock on the bulletin board. I totally wanted to do that, but the clock wouldn’t have made it through a day!
