A friend asked if I would give her a quick review of my tips for creating weeding report when I “get a moment.” I always have a moment for a wonderful friend! I thought I would share my tips here as well.

That is pretty much it! The document is three pages (one of Destiny and two of Excel) and is the tool I use for all of my weeding. Of course, I don’t weed EVERY book that gets narrowed down and onto the list. But, it allows me to shelf read and identify the books that I should examine and consider for weeding.
I often find myself making notes in the margin of my report such as “great for XYZ unit,” “add to resource list for idioms,” etc.
There used to be a “Weed of the Month” website from SUNLINK for Florida librarians, but it is no longer updated. My suggestion is to connect weeding to a rolling inventory plan and go for it regularly in small batches!
